AN Flat
The project involves the subdivision of a four-room apartment located on the sixth floor of a residential building in Angera, overlooking Lake Maggiore and the Rocca di Angera.
The intervention engages with a dwelling that had remained substantially unchanged since the 1960s, reinterpreting it through a new spatial organization aimed at optimizing the layout and enhancing the long perimeter balcony — a key element in establishing a continuous relationship between interior spaces, landscape, and the urban context of Angera.
The operation results in two independent units — a three-room apartment and a studio flat — conceived as distinct yet coherent in terms of architectural language, materials, and design approach.
The studio flat, provided with a new independent entrance, is conceived as a compact, essential, and rational living solution.
A single, generous space accommodates both the living area and the kitchen, while the sleeping area is designed as a concealed, retractable element, allowing flexibility and spatial continuity.
The core of the project is a custom-built storage wall that organizes the entire layout: on one side it structures the main living space, while on the other it separates the service areas, articulated through a multifunctional passage integrating laundry and walk-in closet functions and leading to the bathroom.
Material choices also play a defining role in this unit. Oak, white surfaces, and sage-green tones create a calm yet distinctive atmosphere, combining simplicity with a clear architectural identity.
